after reading an article at www.unitedstatesartists.org called "An American Paradox", I found out how little artists are embraced and valued by the average american. Many people enjoy art, but just don't appreciate the people that make it. Many see the making of art as a "frivolous or recreational pursuit". It is also sad that most famous artists aren't famous until after their life has passed.
